Isn’t lipstick the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about makeup? The right lip color can change your look from bland to bold instantly. But how do you choose the right color? With so many lipsticks out there in the market, it is very difficult to choose a shade that will make you stand out in the crowd.

Although it may seem daunting, finding your perfect hue just takes some knowledge about your skin. By choosing the colour best suited to your complexion and undertone, you’ll be picking the most flattering shade for you. Here are a few steps to choose your shade:

1. Determine your skin tone -
First and most important step to choose the right shade for your lips is to determine your skin tone. There are 5 main types of skin complexion: fair, light, medium, tan, and deep.

To find your skin tone, examine your skin in natural lighting with a hand mirror. Pay special attention to your skin as it appears along your jawline, where the tone is less likely to be affected by sun exposure.

2. Determine your undertones -
Knowing your undertone is essential to finding a shade of lipstick that will make your complexion glow and whiten your teeth.

There are 3 types of undertones that will help you guide better.
They are: warm, cool, and neutral—and each of these has tones within it.
Cool: bluish, red, or pink
Neutral: a mixture of both warm and cool
Warm: golden, peachy, or yellow

To find your skin’s undertone, take a look at the veins on the underside of your wrist in natural light. If your veins appear blue, you have cool-toned skin with pink undertones. If your veins appear green, you have warm-toned skin with yellow undertones. If your veins appear both blue and green, lucky you! You have neutral undertones, and almost every shade of lipstick will look great on you.

3. Choose a Shade -
Now that you know your skin tone and undertone, it is time to combine both and determine your lipstick shade.
Light Cool - For a subtle look, try cool-toned mauves and pinks. For a bolder look, go bright with reds.
Light Warm - You’ll look best in warm neutrals and corally pinks.
Medium Cool - Your unique combination really pops with cool-toned reds, nudes, and vibrant pinks.
Medium Warm - Warm-toned nudes, oranges, and reds will make your honey complexion glow.
Dark Cool - With your skintone, you can really rock plums, berries, and cool-toned reds.
Dark Warm - Warm-toned reds, wine shades, and oranges look fabulous on you!

4. Choose a texture -
There are so many different textures available to choose from like liquid, matte, wax, creamy-wax, creamy-matte, and many more. Choose the one that you can carry for a long duration and also which won’t dry out your lips.

If you're stuck finding the perfect lip shade for your skin tone, just customize your lipstick with suitable texture, aroma, glitter, and your own unique name.
